The first gym I ever walked into was in a basement and had 50 members. That gym changed my life forever. When I opened my first gym I wanted to do 3 things; 1. bottle the emotion I felt in that first gym 2. help people get the body of their dreams 3. Learn what every other health club was doing and do just the opposite. At DavidBartonGym. The first thing you will notice is that your gym looks nothing like your living room. In fact it looks nothing like anything else in the outside world. This is because I want you to forget the outside world while you are here. It is a landscape for the senses, carved out of my imagination and built with one objective; to get your heart racing before you ever step onto the treadmill. When magazines like Interior Design single out DavidBartonGym as one of the world’s most innovative ideas, concepts, and designs of the year it is no wonder so many details of ours are so often copied. Yet what has never been duplicated is the experience, the rare alchemy that occurs when we fuse the pulse of a neighborhood gym with the soul of the local culture. When we take cues from a neighborhoods history like the punk and glam of the east village or outdoorsiness of Seattle and modernize it in a way no one has ever seen before. When all these details from the lighting to the person who greets you to the music are orchestrated just right, we recapture the excitement I felt in that first time I stepped foot in a gym. It is that feeling I have devoted my career to sharing with my members. When you step out of the 9 to 5 world and into ours, I want you energized. I want your imagination dwarfed. I want you to feel like your whole life just got better. I want you surrounded by extravagance because our world serves as a monument to how successful we have been at changing bodies. Tangible reminders that anything is possible, the only limit is ones own imagination and energy.
At the core of your gym is a sea of glittering metal juxtaposing a lavish bathroom you may wish you had at home. However, you can pump iron anywhere and there are many beautiful showers in the world in which to luxuriate. There is something much more extraordinary you will find here though. That is the DavidBartonGym staff, because it is how we engage with our members that distinguishes us. It is how our members feel like a part of a group of people working towards the same goal, to help each other achieve success. We believe that people should lift each other up.Recently a self declared gym hopper who used our gym for a day suggested a research project to define why he felt so much more motivated to workout at DavidBartonGym then at any other gym. To this end I envision a future invention which measures “gym energy.” Until then I would like to believe that my gym creates such an emotional charge that you might drop a few lbs just by standing in the middle of the gym floor. What I do know is that we have delivered to many people the bodies they asked for and somehow this is due in part to the environment we created and that members like to spend a lot of time working out here. Many of our members spend more time with us than with their own families and it is how we help them look and feel better that makes us who we are. It is how we take care of and motivate people that makes us more than a business but an institution.
